Nissan has revealed a new Sentra Spec-V Concept, a modern interpretation of its iconic sporty compact. The concept car packs 300 horsepower and a six-speed manual gearbox, reviving the spirit of the original Sentra SE-R. This performance sedan builds on the current Sentra platform, which is already noted for its affordable price. The original SE-R was a fantastic bargain barnstormer, offering BMW-like performance for significantly less dough, though mind you, I’m talking BMW 318, not M3.

Massive Engine Upgrades

At the heart of the Spec-V is a turbocharged 2.0-liter MR20DD engine. This engine is tuned to produce 300 horsepower at the wheels, a substantial increase over the standard Sentra’s output of just under 150 hp. To handle the added power, Nissan upgraded the engine internals with Carillo rods and JE pistons. The automaker isn’t playing games with the Spec-V, ensuring the powertrain can withstand the stress.

The modifications also include a Garrett G25 turbocharger, a front-mount intercooler, and a proper blow-off valve. A more aggressive fuel pump and stronger engine studs and crank girdle ensure the powertrain can withstand the stress. A lightweight flywheel from Centerforce works with a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential borrowed from the Nismo Juke RS.

GT-R Parts On An Economy Car

The concept borrows several high-performance parts from other Nissan models. It features the rear spoiler and front Recaro seats from the R-35 GT-R. The braking system comes directly from the GT-R NISMO, with large front and rear calipers. Since Nissan can also pull parts from other great members of its lineup, this Sentra wears a few bits from the GT-R.

The exterior is further distinguished by a widebody kit, a custom vented hood, and a side-exit exhaust. The suspension consists of upgraded NISMO Sentra coilovers. These feature revised front shocks with external reservoirs and a damping profile tuned for the racetrack. The car sits on NISMO LM-RS1 19-inch forged wheels wrapped in 265-section-width Yokohama Advan tires. Racing harnesses are also included to keep the driver secure.

Currently a concept, the Sentra Spec-V demonstrates Nissan’s continued interest in building fun-to-drive vehicles. While the full track-ready version is unlikely to reach production, a version closer to this concept could be a significant win for the brand. The automaker has taken the standard car as its starting point, tossed a ton of awesome parts on it, and given us the SE-R reborn.
