Mercedes-Benz Australia is recalling over 58,000 vehicles due to a manufacturing defect that may prevent the auto park feature from operating as intended. The defect affects the door-lock microswitch, which may be susceptible to water damage and fail, according to the company’s recall notice.
This can cause the door to not be detected as open, preventing the vehicle from shifting into park when the door is opened. As a result, there is an increased risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.
Affected Vehicles
The recall affects 58,822 vehicles produced between 2018 and 2026 across several model lines, including the A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, CLA, CLE, EQA, GLA, GLB, and GLC. The affected models include the A180, A180d, A200, A200d, A250, and AMG A35 4Matic, among others.
According to the recall notice, drivers should always engage the Park position on the gear selector and apply the parking brake, as described in the Owner’s Manual, prior to leaving the vehicle. This is to prevent unintended vehicle movement.

Repair and Notification
Mercedes-Benz will contact owners of affected vehicles and advise them to schedule an appointment with an authorized dealership to have the free repair carried out once parts become available. The original recall notice and the full Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list can be viewed here.
In practice, this recall may cause some inconvenience for vehicle owners, who will need to schedule a repair appointment and potentially leave their vehicle at the dealership for a period of time. However, the repair is free, and Mercedes-Benz is taking steps to ensure that the issue is resolved as quickly as possible.
The recall notice states that a loss of auto park feature may result in unintended vehicle movement, which increases the risk of an accident. Therefore, it is essential for drivers to take precautions and always engage the Park position on the gear selector and apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz has not provided a specific timeline for when the repairs will be completed, but the company will notify owners of affected vehicles and provide instructions on how to schedule a repair appointment. In the meantime, drivers can take steps to ensure their safety by following the instructions in the Owner’s Manual and being aware of the potential risk of unintended vehicle movement.
