A Midnight Purple Nissan GT-R T-Spec recently received full protection treatment at Bulletproof Auto Spa in Los Angeles, transforming into what the shop calls a showcase of proper care for a rare machine. The work extends beyond basic detailing, addressing both preservation and performance on a model already prized for its scarcity and appeal.
The GT-R R35 T-Spec, produced since 2007, occupies a unique position between Nissan’s standard Premium trim and the NISMO variant. Its collectibility often exceeds both tiers. Nissan limited production to just two heritage colors—Midnight Purple and Deep Garnet Red—and equipped it with NISMO-derived components, including Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and gold-painted RAYS forged wheels. Under the hood, its 3.8-liter twin-turbo VR38DETT V6 delivers 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque, achieving a 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds—outperforming many vehicles costing three times more.

Nissan has not announced a replacement for the R35. Once production ceases, it will end entirely, making preservation essential. A daily-driven T-Spec without protection loses value with every exposure to road debris, UV rays, and environmental damage. This owner recognized the need, which is why the car was entrusted to Bulletproof.
The core of the build is a full-body XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film (PPF) installation. Unlike partial wraps or high-impact-only applications, every panel—bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, A-pillars, rocker panels, door edges, door cups, rear quarters, and trunk—received complete coverage. The choice makes sense for a Midnight Purple T-Spec, as its tri-coat paint shifts dramatically with light, requiring full-panel resprays to repair chips or scratches. Protection ensures the color’s depth remains intact.
The XPEL Ultimate Plus film is a self-healing thermoplastic urethane that absorbs impacts and restores its original state with heat. Bulletproof’s technicians used precision plotter-cut patterns and wet-install techniques to maintain clean edges and seamless transitions, even around the GT-R’s aggressive body lines. Every panel was inspected under high-intensity lighting before final approval, ensuring no lifting edges, contamination, or tunneling.

Alongside the PPF, Bulletproof applied XPEL Prime XR Plus nano-ceramic window tint across all glass. For a Los Angeles-based car, this is practical as well as aesthetic. The tint blocks up to 98% of infrared heat and over 99% of UV radiation, preventing Alcantara fading, plastic degradation, and cabin overheating. Unlike cheaper dyed films, the nano-ceramic technology preserves clarity over time, complementing the Midnight Purple finish without disrupting the GT-R’s electronics.
The GT-R R35’s legacy began at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and endured for nearly two decades with no full redesign—only relentless refinement. Its twin-turbo V6 still outperforms newer, more expensive rivals. Its all-wheel-drive system remains more advanced than most competitors. The chassis still engages the driver in a way modern electronic safety systems have largely eliminated. This is rare, not common.

That’s why the T-Spec in Midnight Purple is one of the most compelling collector purchases for enthusiasts today. No successor is confirmed, and demand will only grow as new examples become scarcer. A well-preserved, properly protected T-Spec is more than a daily driver—it’s a future-proof asset, rewarding the owner who prioritized its care from the start.
This owner took that approach. And Bulletproof delivered the result it deserved.
