Chinese automaker Geely introduced an electric drive system that merges 16 key components into one unit. The setup reaches 93.8% efficiency under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The 16-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive includes hardware such as the electric motor, motor controller, and reducer alongside four software systems for energy and charging management.
Smaller, lighter, and more efficient
The new system removes over 180 parts, simplifying production. Weighing 75 kg (165 pounds) and standing 12.8 inches tall, it occupies less space than conventional designs. Geely stated the design reduces high-voltage wiring by 30% and low-voltage wiring by 15%.
This size advantage creates tangible benefits. The Geely Galaxy TT, a sport sedan that will debut the technology, gains about one cubic foot of cargo room. The vehicle stretches nearly 197 inches long, matching the Porsche Taycan and BMW 5 Series in length. Two powertrain options will be available.
The rear-wheel-drive model offers 329 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive version delivers 570 horsepower and reaches 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
Software integration
The system depends on four software modules: energy management, charging control, motion control, and health monitoring. These components coordinate to improve performance.
Such efficiency improvements may help Geely stand out in China’s crowded EV market, where range and price drive consumer choices.
Cost savings also matter. Fewer parts and less wiring could lower manufacturing expenses, helping automakers make electric vehicles more affordable. Reliability over time remains unproven, however, and only extended testing will confirm whether the integrated design matches traditional setups.
What’s next for Geely’s EV push
The Galaxy TT will be the first model to use the 16-in-1 drive. Geely’s plans may include broader adoption if the technology succeeds. The company has rapidly expanded its EV offerings, and this system might later appear in other models.
For now, the emphasis stays on performance and space efficiency. Geely’s strategy aligns with industry trends, where automakers increasingly favor integrated systems to cut weight and boost efficiency.
